Birds are a prominent part in literature, and I think Edgar Allen Poe showed it best in his poem the Raven. The beauty of birds is very evident, and they are often associated with peaceful and natural backgrounds. When i'm hiking, I love to see bright red cardinals flying through the trees. However, I enjoy the staunch mystery of the Raven in Poe's poem rather than the popular view of birds in nature. The way the creepy bird is portrayed is adverse to the common perception that birds are naturally benevolent. The truth is, most birds can be terrifying if they want to be, but the common view of birds as a beacon of love and happiness is much more appealing.
