Birds are common symbols in literature. Many people
tend to write about things they’ve seen or experienced, and given how common
birds are, it’s not surprising that they’re so popular. In addition to this, the different
habits and appearances of birds means that they can be used to symbolize different things, so they can work with a lot of
different themes, moods and subjects in writing. They can also be used as foreshadowing; a bluebird might indicate something happy happening soon, while a raven could foretell a death.
