May I Have This "Dance"
For me this poem is very interesting to analyze. I think that the violent words tell us that this is not some family fun but it is perhaps the cycle of a drunk and his families struggles to deal with him. Words like waltz and romped make it seem like a fun affair but I think this is just to try and throw readers off the real scenario. I think the author's view of his father is complicated by his love for his father but not his bad habits. The author did a very good job with his word choice which makes us have to really think.

I think your right about the author wanting to find something to love in his father but not being able to forget his abusiveness.
