Who was Papa
In the poem Papa is described in three ways, "The whiskey on your breath, With a palm caked hard by dirt, and We romped until the pans Slid from the kitchen shelf." From what I can tell, Papa is a hard working man based on how his hands are described with dirt caked on them. Papa is also described to be a fun parent who plays with his child, as described in the poem. So far Papa sounds pretty good, but the way hes is described in the first line, hints at the fact that Papa might be heavy drinker. He is described that his breath could make a young boy tipsy from it. The poet did a good job describing Papa in the poem.
