C.S Lewis's reasons why.. (late)

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.

When I read this quote I was instantly reminded of a new Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why. In this show a girl named Hannah Baker commits suicide and leaves 13 tapes of all the reasons she killed herself. She faced every issue someone could face in high school and all she needed to survive was for just one person to love her. If just one person had cared she wouldn't have died. She didn't need friendship to survive but her life had no value without it. Being an extremely extroverted person I believe friendship is necessary. People die of loneliness so maybe friendship does have survival value. Some of the darkest moments in my life were the times I felt no one cared. Even if friendship isn't necessary it sure makes life a lot more bearable and for some people it does save their life. Sometimes all it takes is one person to make survival more valuable.
