um yikes
I was born in Pensacola, Florida to a VERY Hispanic family. I guess as far as geography goes, you could count Florida as being in the South. But, traveling down to Florida from Georgia to visit family is like crossing into a different world. In Georgia, we see a variety of elements that classify a state as "Southern." Southern hospitality, homegrown goods, sweet tea, and even chacos are what distinguish the South from other states. When I lived in Florida, I was never really introduced to sweet tea. I would never go to my neighbor's house asking for a favor or a baking element I lacked. Florida is somewhat a concrete jungle. Sure, we have the beaches and the wetlands. But, what takes most importance is the malls. In Georgia, people are so much more friendly here. Georgia is also known for being very conservative, as Florida has teetered on that spectrum (leaning more towards libertarianism). Although these two very different places have a lot of pros and cons towards them, I think I would like to reside in Florida in the future. I too am very family oriented and want to go to my grandma's house after church to eat. But until then, I will continue to look at my boyfriend in disgust whenever he orders sweet tea at a restaurant.
